Yesterday was my first day of riding my new-to-me '97 Savage. On the way home, the shifter rod snapped, leaving me stuck in 5th gear. I got within a mile or so of home before having to stop (traffic light) and pushed it the rest of the way.
A couple of other folks here have said this happened to them, one saying that many other people had too. How common a problem is this? Enough that (in the US) the NHTSC might propose a recall if people submitted complaints about it?
